About My Pet

Our pets provide us with unconditional love - it has been reported people who have pets live longer. I'm not sure if that's true but I am sure they live happier.

Each month we feature a story of someone's pet(s) to let others know about the joy they have brought to that individual (or family's) life. The breeds are varied but the love they bring is the same.

We hope if you are looking to add a dog or a cat to your family you will consider visiting one the No Kill Shelters (such as Dogs and Cats Forever) or the Humane Society in your area. You can also find the perfect adoptable pet on a Rescue website (such as Dachshund Rescue of South Florida).

This month we are pleased to feature our new addition, Lord Hanley. He is a dachshund rescue adopted by us (his forever family) in May.

We applied to Dachshund Rescue of South Florida and were approved in May. Jim and I attended a Yappy Hour hosted by DRSF which is where we met Hanley. He's a 3 Years old tweeny/mini black and tan dachshund.

It was love a first sight - we knew he was the right fit for our family. The folks at DRSF knew it too. Especially when Jim wouldn't put him down all evening. The very next day with application in hand they brought Hanley to us. We were thrilled.

He had some behavoirs he needed to unlearn and others he needed to learn but anyone who owns a doxie knows how intelligent they are so he was a quick study. Dachshunds can be stubborn but Hanley is not. He is uncharacteristically willing to please. And of course we spoil him.

He loves long walks and rides in the car. He wasn't a very good car rider at first but now he loves sitting in his car seat and looking out the window. He also loves going to the pet store where they fuss over him and to the dog friendly beach in St Lucie County. He tolerates our cat (another rescue) and she tolerates him.

Anyone wanting to add a pet (dog or cat) really should talk to one of the rescue folks. So many wonderful animals are in need of "forever homes".

We will always miss our Jasmine -afterall we had her for over 13 years but Hanley has definitely filled the void and in his own right is a valued member of our family.
